Advanced Fly Tying - Dan's Killer Rubber Leg Nymph
by Larry Forte
At our advanced fly tying gathering, on September 17th at 7 p.m., we have a special evening planned. Dan Neuland will share with us how to tie his adaption of a rubber leg nymph pattern, called the Dan's Killer Rubber Leg Nymph. A very special fly created by Dan himself. Dan says about his pattern:
What makes this pattern special to me is the addition of the rubber legs. Rubber legs are a popular material that are typically used in fly tying to create flies that imitate the legs of insects, such as grasshoppers, spiders, and other terrestrial insects. Rubber legs are made from a flexible rubber material that has a lifelike movement in the water and can add a realistic appearance to a fly pattern.
In addition to the rubber legs, the “flash-back’” wing casing adds some extra sparkle that may help get the fly noticed more easily in dark waters while the brass bead head adds weight that allows the fly to be fished deep. I first experimented with a rubber leg nymph that I purchased. I have to say that the rubber legs seemed to make the difference in my success, so I decided to create my own version of the pattern.
I hope you can join us. This is open to everyone. Perhaps you are not sure if your skills are to the “Advanced” level yet? No worries. Come and watch and check it out. I am barely an intermediate tier but I learn something new at each session. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!
We will supply materials. If you are planning to attend we would greatly appreciate knowing in advance for planning purposes. Please contact.
WANT TO JOIN US VIA ZOOM?
If you would like to join us for the tying session but can’t make it in person, we will make this meeting available via Zoom. Please send an email to Larry Forte so that we can send you the Zoom link prior to the start of the meeting.
