Beginner’s Fly Tying Class: March 18, 2019

By Jon Thames

This month’s Beginner’s Fly Tying session will be held on Monday, March 18th at 7:00 PM. Please join us and I’ll do everything I can to make sure snow is not the topic of concern! I’m writing this after our 5 plus inches of snow that fell on Wednesday, February 20th.

This month’s fly is a variation of the “Klinkhammer”, a classic Emerger that has been a staple in most Fly Boxes and can be a difficult fly to tie.  This version is tied in the Tommy Marks style, using a very small foam shower shoe post rather than the complicated post used in this classic Emerger. We will be tying two color versions for Spring fishing.  This fly is great for Trout and a killer if your temping Bass, Bluegill/Sunfish or Crappie.

As has been customary in past months the PVFF will provide all tying materials to tie this fly and if you do not have your own fly tying equipment, a set will be provided for use that evening.
We will again meet in Room 207 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 703 West Patrick Street, Frederick.
