Club Picnic and Yard Sale: June 12, 2018

By Larry Forte

JUNE 11 UPDATE: Some good news and some bad news for you. The bad news is that Catoctin Creek is blown-out and not fishable at this point, so we have to reschedule the one-fly tournament for a later date. Now the good news: The weather forecast is perfect for a family picnic tomorrow. Start time: 7:00 p.m. Come out early if you like. Bring the family. Try out our Winston rod that you can win at our banquet. We will also have our PVFF Yard Sale. If you have anything you would like to sell, just bring it with you. We are also going to have a Super Sized 50/50 Raffle which will include many awesome flies and PVFF gear.

I ask you – who does not love a picnic??? Great food, great people, beautiful environment plus a chance to fish. I hope that you can join us at our June Meeting, which will be our Annual Family Picnic at the Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center, 2929 Sumantown Road, Middletown, MD. This will be held on Tuesday, June 12th and the fun will begin at 4:00 PM, with dinner starting at 7:00 PM. This is a family event so please bring your family.

We will start at 4:00 PM with our Second Annual “One–Fly” Competition. This will be a contest to see who can catch the most fish, of any species, on a single fly of their own choosing. You may not change flies during the contest, and if you lose your fly, then you’re finished in the competition. A $25.00 gift certificate will be awarded to the winner. The competition will start at 4:00 PM and end at 7:00 PM. Good luck Rachel Bernard as she defends her 2017 victory!

The Club will provide Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, and all members are asked to bring either a covered dish, or desert to share. You can register for the picnic below.

PVFF “Yard Sale” at the Family Club Picnic

Yes, you read that correctly…YARD SALE. Our June Meeting is our Annual Picnic and this year with a little twist. I have heard from more than a few members who have fly fishing “stuff” that they would like to sell, trade or just get rid of, but don’t know how! Imagine a chance to bring the other vise you have and don’t use, the other 5-weight rod or reel, etc. and you get the idea. So collect your “good quality stuff”, think about a fair price and bring it to the Picnic. Remember you are selling to your fly fishing family so put a price on it to sell to a friend and make room in your house for the “new” stuff that you will find at this Yard Sale! Be sure everything you bring is priced and your name is attached so members can find you for payment.
See you June 12th at the Picnic! I’ll be there early to help set up and look at the Sale stuff.
