Roundtable Fly Tying Class: April 17, 2019

By Jon Thames

The next Fly Tying Roundtable will be held on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00 PM as we welcome back our guest tier for this evening, Ray Gano.

He will lead us in learning how to tie “Egan’s Red Dart”, an attractor nymph pattern originated by Lance Egan, of Lehi, Utah. Lance tied this fly for the World Fly Fishing Championship held in Bolzano, Italy in 2011. Besides being a member of Fly Fishing Team USA since 2003, Lance is also a prolific fly tier and creator. He has also created the “Frenchie”, “GTI Caddis”, “BWO Iron Lotus”, “Rainbow Warrior”, “Tungsten Surveyor”, and many other great fish-catching fly patterns!

“Egan’s Red Dart”, tied in size #14, can be fished alone or as a dropper with success. This is a great fly pattern to learn just in time for Spring outings!

We will meet again in Room 109 at Trinity United Methodist Church 703 West Patrick Street.  As is our policy, the PVFF will provide the materials for this Fly so bring your tying equipment, vise and Bright Red 6/0 Thread. Loaner vices and basic equipment will be available. New tiers are encouraged to attend.
